Wrist-ankle acupuncture in treating renal colic
International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture. 1998; 9(3): 323-325.
One hundred cases of renal colic were randomly designated into the wrist and ankle acupuncture group, and another 100 cases as the medicated group. After 30 minutes of treatment, the pain relief obtained in both groups was analyzed. The results showed that there was a total effective rate of 99% in the acupuncture group, and 86% in the medicated group, P less than 0.01, with significant difference between both groups. In calculation of time used for cured cases, 70.7% of the cases achieved a cure in the wrist and ankle acupunture group after 5 minutes, but only 12.7% (P less than 0.005) in the medicated group, revealing that acupuncture might have a more rapid effect on relief of due to renal colic than the use of medicine. It was found especially effective for the treatment of cases of renal colic due to multiple lithogenesis
